E-ticket STATE EXPRESS TRANSPORT CORPORATION, PNR MISMATCH

I booked an e-ticket Ticket for my son from Rajapalayam to Hosur, Route No : 646UD, dep: 2030 hrs, for 06-11-2018 (Yesterday). On submission of the ticket to the Conductor he said that the PNR numbers did not match and hence journey was not possible. After several phone calls from our side we were able to convince the conductor. Is it right to harass my son, a student, because of SETC’s error? Can any passenger choose PNR number except SETC Office.It is strange to see such behavior of the Conductor as if it was the mistake of the Passenger while all the other data including ID card was correct.
